OUR MISSION
Center for Active Learning is a Brooklyn based 501(c)3 organization dedicated to educating and inspiring our community. Our primary focus is the provision of informal learning opportunities that center creative and health related topics. Supporting the 'whole person' is our philosophy and so, we aim to provide a variety of programming that encourages the realization of an individuals goals. We can not be a monolithic organization and serve the whole person.
Encouraging learning just because.
All of our educational activities are founded in active learning methodologies. Active learning strategies encourage learner engagement, and afford the learner the opportunity to process information from their own cultural and experiential perspectives. When coupled with adult theoretical methods, such as dialogue, for example, the end result is very beneficial to the learner.
Since 2009, we have hosted film screenings followed by informal talk backs and activities that encourage learning centered around historical, social, theoretical and emotional context.
Black Classic Film Series celebrates Black History Month with screenings of groundbreaking films that celebrate black culture and history.

We help creatives reach their goals.
Being a creative can be costly and get complicated, especially when it comes to legal and technical matters. Our workshops cover a variety of topics ranging from tips on crowdfunding to protecting your intellectual property. Check this page for updates on upcoming workshops.
We support our community.
We also provide health seminars and other enlightening activities designed to address the needs of our community. Some of our past seminars include the Lupus Empowerment Group held at Interfaith Medical Center, Media Focus Program at Public School 5 and an Intergenerational Workshop held at Kingsborough Houses. All of these seminars were held in Brooklyn.
